We study viruses at the interface of humans & animals health, using genomics to understand how viruses emerge, evolve & spread.
Lead by Dr John-Sebastian Eden, The Viromics Lab is based at the Centre for Virus Research, Westmead Institute for Medical Research in Sydney, Australia. The lab combines genomic sequencing, metagenomics, molecular virology and computational biology to investigate emerging and re-emerging viruses of human & animal health importance.
Our work spans virus discovery through to outbreak response. We are particularly interested in viruses circulating in wildlife reservoirs, the evolutionary processes that enable viruses to cross species barriers, and how genomic surveillance can provide earlier warning of emerging infectious disease threats.
